Short Biography:
Denis Medeiros’ chief area of research is with trace elements and disease. In particular his research career has focused on the role of copper in heart disease, and the role that iron plays in bone integrity. He has garnered more than $2 million in research funding in his career. He has also worked on various nutrition education projects over his career. Medeiros served on several faculties: Mississippi State University, The University of Wyoming and the Ohio State University. At Ohio State he was Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies in the College of Human Ecology and also served as Interim Dean for one year.
He was born in Massachusetts and grew up in Connecticut. At K-State Medeiros has been active in Alianza, the Hispanic/Latino organization of faculty and staff. He is also the Director the Bridges to the Bachelor’s program, funded by the National Institutes of Health to increase transfer of under-represented minority students from Kansas community colleges to K-State in the biomedical sciences.
