Personal Financial Planning
Graduates of the Personal Financial Planning program earn a B.S. in Family Studies and Human Services with a Personal Financial Planning emphasis. Graduates are eligible to take the CFP® Certification Examination.
The combined emphasis on financial planning, decision making, and family relationships provides the graduate with a solid background to meet the needs of this rapidly growing profession. Students take courses in personal finance, family relationships and decision making, consumer rights, insurance, investments, taxation, retirement and estate planning, economics, and accounting. Emphasis is placed on understanding financial products and how they work, as well as the role of family in financial decisions.
The Personal Financial Planning Program benefits from the advice and expertise of its Advisory Board, made up of financial industry professionals.
Graduates work in the insurance, banking, credit union, retirement, estate planning, personnel benefits, and investments industries; as consumer affairs professionals in business; and with local, state, and federal consumer protection agencies. Emphasis is placed on understanding financial products and how they work, as well as the role of family in financial decisions. This family and consumer economics program is registered with the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, so graduates will be qualified to take the CFP certification examination and work as certified financial planners.
