David Kozar, a student in the graduate certificate in conflict resolution program, has been named a World Peace Fellow. Rotary International will fund his studies toward a Master of International Studies in Peace and Conflict Resolution at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia.

Seventy fellows from 33 countries were selected for their leadership potential in government, business, education, media, and other professional areas, said Terrie McCants, director of the Conflict Resolution certificate program in the School of Family Studies and Human Services.

After graduation from K-State in 2002, Kozar founded the Devolver Films Company. He spent months in Bosnia and Herzegovina working on a feature-length documentary called “Decade from Destruction.” The film, which focuses on the struggles of life in a post-conflict society, is in post-production.

As a member of the advisory board of Training Workshops International (TWI) for the Children, Kozar works with international volunteers to develop inter-ethnic children’s programs and adult education seminars to promote community reconciliation across the Balkans. He also works with the Center for Balkan Development/Friends of Bosnia.

Kozar is a program assistant in the Division of Continuing Education.

“Terrie McCants is one of the people responsible for inspiring me to work on building sustainable peace projects in divided societies in Bosnia,” he said.
